Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Hemp & Marijuana?

Both hemp and marijuana are terms that refer to the same species of plants, but with an important distinction. Hemp’s concentration of THC—the main mind-altering compound found in marijuana—is less than 0.3% on a dry weight basis. That critical difference means that consuming hemp-derived products doesn’t result in getting high.

Hemp still contains a broad range of other cannabinoid compounds, like CBD (cannabidiol).

Marijuana also contains these compounds, but their effects are typically overshadowed by the mind-altering aspect of THC. The fact that marijuana is typically smoked can also impact the efficiency with which the body metabolizes these compounds.

What is CBD?

CBD is a molecule found only in the cannabis family of plants. It is often derived from the hemp plant. Unlike THC, CBD does not have any psychoactive effects. For more information visit Project CBD.

Hemp Seed Oil vs. Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract

There is another distinction within the world of hemp-derived products. Hemp seed oil has long been used as a plant-based protein source for everything from skin creams to granola bars. Hemp seed oil is made by pressing hemp seeds together. While it’s a healthy alternative to many other protein sources, very few cannabinoids survive the process intact. Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract contains all or nearly all of the cannabinoids naturally present in the hemp plant. Full-spectrum Hemp Extract  is what high-quality CBD products are made from. These products are created from cannabinoids extracted from organic hemp to soothe and relax users with effects of CBD and its related non-psychoactive cannabinoids. Full-Spectrum Hemp Extract contains less than 0.3% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and derived from hemp that meet all legal requirements.

Is Hemp and CBD legal?

Yes. The 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law in December 2018, legalizing hemp at the federal level by removing it from the federal list of controlled substances and classifying it as an agricultural commodity. As a result, CBD derived from hemp is legal in the United States.
